Venice considers raising day-trip tourist fee to €30

Venice officials are considering a significant increase in the entry fee for day-trip tourists to combat overtourism. Michele Zuin, the city's budget and taxation councillor, stated that the current fee of €5 to €10 is no longer an effective deterrent because it is affordable for almost everyone.

Starting in 2027, the city aims to establish a more permanent fee structure that could see daily charges rise to as much as €30 per person. Some discussions have even suggested rates as high as €50. The goal of the increase is not primarily to boost revenue, but to discourage crowds during peak periods and reduce the strain on the city's infrastructure and environment.

In 2026, the pilot program collected over €5.2 million from approximately 680,000 tickets during 60 selected days. The proposed changes would also likely expand the number of days the fee is applicable throughout the year. Any significant increase in the fee cap requires approval from the Italian national government and parliament.
