Venice police arrest man for commissioned acid attack

Italian authorities have arrested a 22-year-old Macedonian national in connection with a commissioned acid attack on a 32-year-old woman in Scorzè, near Venice. The incident occurred on June 26, when the victim was approached after exiting her vehicle and struck with a corrosive liquid, resulting in second-degree burns to her face, neck, upper chest, and arms.

Investigations led by the Carabinieri, supported by technical analysis from the RIS of Parma, identified the suspect through DNA comparison from clothing abandoned during his escape and surveillance footage. The suspect, who also bears acid burns and distinctive facial moles visible on camera, was apprehended at the Venezia Santa Lucia railway station. He was already subject to a European arrest warrant from North Macedonia for prior aggravated theft convictions.

The suspect faces charges of aggravated personal injury and permanent facial disfigurement.
