Venice restaurant bill sparks outrage after charging tourists 188 euros
Two Canadian tourists have sparked social media outrage after being charged 188 euros for a meal in Venice, Italy. The bill, which included pizza and a turbot, caused significant controversy online.
The turbot alone accounted for 156 euros of the total. According to the restaurant's menu, the fish was priced at 13 euros per 100 grams. While the city and local industry associations have defended the Trattoria Ali D’oro, Venetian City Councilor Sebastiano Costalonga suggested the incident might be a communication issue, noting that the tourists may not have been informed the fish weighed 1.2 kilograms.
