Venérato hosts 11th International Sculpture Symposium

The 11th International Sculpture Symposium has concluded in Venérato, organized by the Municipality of Heraklion and the Region of Crete. The event, which marks 20 years of the symposium, featured artists from 22 different countries working with large blocks of white marble.

Five new marble sculptures were unveiled during the closing ceremony. These works will remain permanently in the Municipality of Heraklion to enrich the local cultural heritage. Participating artists included Leda Pavli, Cuban artist Óscar Laureliano Aguirre Comendador, Chinese sculptor and ISSA president Yang Liu, award-winning Antonis Myrodias, and Manolis Charkoutsis.

During the ceremony, Heraklion Mayor Alexis Kalokerinos emphasized the long-standing value of the institution and discussed the need to develop its full potential. He also addressed the future of the local 'Wine and Spirit Center,' committing to having the space fully operational by 2027.
