Venstre leader Troels Lund Poulsen demands party unity

Following an extraordinary board meeting in Nyborg, Venstre leader Troels Lund Poulsen has issued a mandate for strict party discipline. He stated that members of the parliamentary group who refuse to follow the majority line on key issues will face consequences, including potential removal from the group.

The directive follows months of internal unrest, specifically regarding a controversial fertilizer law where five of the party's 18 MPs voted against the official party position. This dissent led to the departure of MP Søren Gade from Parliament.

Poulsen emphasized that he does not wish to lead a group that “votes east and west,” seeking to establish stability ahead of upcoming votes on green transition policies, such as pesticide bans in vulnerable groundwater areas.
