Venstre21 proposes conditional Danish citizenship model
Troels Lund Poulsen, chairman of Venstre21, has proposed a new model for Danish citizenship based on a conditional probationary period. The proposal suggests that after a parliamentary majority approves an individual for naturalization, there should be an initial five-year period where the acquisition of citizenship is contingent upon the individual not committing crimes that result in imprisonment.
Poulsen argues that the current system has been too naive, noting that citizenship has been granted to individuals who subsequently fail to respect Danish values, commit serious crimes, or work against democratic principles. He emphasizes that citizenship should be something earned through demonstrated respect for the community and its fundamental values, such as equality and democracy.
