Šventoji port reconstruction begins in Lithuania
Construction has officially commenced on the reconstruction of the Šventoji port in Lithuania, marking a historic milestone a century after the original port's inception. The project aims to revitalize the area for shipping, fishing, and tourism, with the capacity to accommodate approximately 450 vessels at once.
The first stage of construction involves building two external piers: a southern pier measuring 647.5 meters and a northern pier measuring 402.5 meters. The project, designed by MB ‘Kordonas’, includes the installation of quays, a 9-meter-wide promenade, and the deepening of the access channel.
UAB ‘Tilsta’ has signed a contract with the Palanga municipality to execute the works, valued at 38.23 million euros. The original port construction was interrupted by World War II, and during the Soviet era, the site served only as a fishing base. Previously, attempts to maintain the access channel failed due to sand accumulation caused by the lack of protective maritime piers.
