A 3-year-old Great Pyrenees mix named Bruce has been euthanized in Ventura County following a series of biting incidents. The animal was deemed vicious by a hearing officer in March, a determination later affirmed by the Ventura County Superior Court in April.

Ventura County Animal Services reported that Bruce's history of biting began in February 2024 and continued through late 2025. The agency stated that victims required medical attention for severe lacerations and skin grafts. The final incident involved the dog lunging at and knocking a man to the ground.

Despite an emergency request reaching U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan and various legal challenges, the euthanasia proceeded. A United States District Court denied an emergency application in August to prevent the enforcement of the Superior Court's order, lifting a temporary restraining order. Advocates, including Dan Bolton, questioned the practice of euthanizing animals based on past behavior without exploring life-saving alternatives.
