Venus planetary occultation to occur on September 14

On Monday, September 14, observers can witness the year's only planetary occultation, according to the Svábhegyi Csillagvizsgáló. During this event, a thin crescent Moon, with only 12 percent illumination, will occult Venus, which is at a 29 percent phase.

From Budapest, the occultation is expected to begin around 11:34 and conclude around 12:44. Because the event occurs relatively low in the sky, finding the thin crescent Moon during the day may be challenging, and an unobstructed horizon is necessary. Experts recommend using an astronomy mobile application to locate the Moon. If found, Venus—which is near its maximum brightness—should be visible near the Moon, potentially even with the naked eye under clear skies. Using binoculars is advised to better observe the close approach.
