Veolia expands AI‑driven solar self‑consumption projects across Spain

Veolia is rolling out digital‑managed solar self‑consumption systems for industrial and large‑retail sites in Spain. The company now operates more than 256 installations with a combined capacity of over 345 MWp, coupling photovoltaic generation with on‑site energy storage and artificial‑intelligence‑based monitoring to optimise usage, cut operating costs and enhance resilience.

A flagship example is the Carrefour hyper‑market in Alfafar, Valencia. The site combines a 1.1 MWp solar plant with a 430 kWh battery managed by AI, supplying more than 40 % of the store’s electricity and helping the facility stay operational after the severe DANA storm of October 2024. Veolia’s approach aims to accelerate corporate decarbonisation, improve grid interaction and provide a scalable model for other Spanish industries and infrastructure operators.
