Veolia implements water reuse and circular economy solutions in Spain
Veolia and its subsidiary Hidralia are implementing ecological transformation strategies in Spain to combat the effects of climate change, such as prolonged droughts and extreme weather events. In the Valencian Community, Veolia and its partner companies—including Aguas de Alicante, Aigües d’Elx, Aigües de l’Horta, Aigües de Paterna, Agamed, and Aigües de Cullera—employ over 1,100 people and provide water services to approximately 2.5 million residents.
The company is focusing on water efficiency, infrastructure digitalization, and the regeneration of natural resources. In Andalusia, Hidralia is developing “ecofactories,” which are self-sufficient and circular wastewater treatment plants designed to regenerate water, valorize waste, and produce clean energy. These initiatives aim to ensure the continuity of essential services while addressing the growing gap between decreasing water availability and increasing demand.
