Vera Holtz to decline role in Avenida Brasil 2 sequel

Actress Vera Holtz will not reprise her role as Mãe Lucinda in the upcoming sequel to the 2012 telenovela ‘Avenida Brasil’. The production, titled ‘Avenida Brasil 2’, is scheduled to premiere on Globo on January 25, 2027.

Holtz cited personal reasons for her decision to withdraw from the project. Despite efforts by director Ricardo Waddington to secure her participation, including a private dinner to discuss the production, the actress declined. Globo reportedly was willing to make concessions to ensure her return, but the decision remained final due to factors outside of her control.

To address the absence of such a central character, director Waddington is expected to use off-screen mentions or citations of Lucinda within the new storyline.

Other confirmed cast members for the sequel include Murilo Benício, Letícia Isnard, Marcos Caruso, Eliane Giardini, Juliano Cazarré, and Cauã Reymond, who will return as Jorginho. Other original cast members, such as Ísis Valverde and Débora Nascimento, will also not participate in the continuation.
