Vera Therapeutics reports positive Phase 3 results for Trutakna

Vera Therapeutics has reported positive two-year results from its Phase 3 ORIGIN 3 trial for Trutakna, a treatment for adults with immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN). The study showed that patients receiving Trutakna experienced a 76% reduction in the risk of composite kidney-disease progression compared to a placebo over 104 weeks.

Key findings from the trial include a significant stabilization of the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The annualized eGFR decline for the Trutakna group was 0.6, compared to 5.6 in the placebo group. Additionally, no patients in the Trutakna group required dialysis, kidney transplantation, or died during the analysis period.

While the drug received accelerated FDA approval in July 2026 based on its ability to reduce proteinuria, some market analysts maintain a cautious stance. Concerns cited include intense competition from other recently approved therapies, the company's reliance on Trutakna's commercial success, and mounting operating losses.
