Veracruz animal cruelty cases spark outrage and investigations
Two separate animal‑cruelty incidents in the Lomas del Vergel neighbourhood of Veracruz have drawn public attention. A rescued dog named Kirai, who survived an alleged abuse, is being treated at Hospital Veterinario Universum K9 while authorities investigate the case and seek a permanent home for her.
Another case involves a dog named Yena, photographed with severe burns that appear to have been caused by hot water or oil. Formal complaints have been filed by a citizen and the municipal government, but the investigation is stalled because Yena has disappeared, leaving officials without medical evidence.
Activist Guadalupe Delgado Martínez of a local animal‑protection group says the lack of the animal hampers the legal process, though the allegations remain under the presumption of animal‑cruelty offense.
