Veracruz authorities conduct widespread inspections of funeral homes and crematoriums

State prosecutors and security forces carried out simultaneous raids on at least eleven funeral homes and two crematoriums in the Veracruz conurbation. The operations involved members of the Fiscalía General del Estado, the Police Ministerial, the Naval Police, the National Guard, the State Police, and the investigative police. Locations inspected included Tanatorium, Funerales D’ Veracruz, Dulce Nombre de Jesús, Funerales Olivares, Funerales Ramírez, Funeraria Del Ángel, Memorial, Funerales García, Funerales Aranda, Funeraria Los Ángeles, and the crematory at Panteón Jardín, as well as several other sites identified by street addresses.

Authorities have not released any findings or reported arrests, and they have not explained whether the raids stem from a specific complaint. Funeral home owners have expressed willingness to cooperate while requesting transparency, and families present at the services reported surprise and concern over the heavy police presence.
