Veracruz under Gray Alert as heavy rains and cyclone risk persist

The state of Veracruz is under a Gray Alert (Action Phase) as heavy rainfall, driven by the interaction of Cold Front 1 and a tropical trough, continues to impact the region. Authorities have reported flooding, landslides, and road closures across at least 10 municipalities, including Xalapa, Castillo de Teayo, Álamo Temapache, and Huayacocotla.

Meteorological models indicate a 40 percent chance that the current weather system could organize into a tropical cyclone within the next seven days. While river levels in the Tecolutla and Cazones basins have risen significantly, they currently remain within normal parameters. Emergency response plans, including Tajín, DN-III-E, and Marina, have been activated to assist affected populations.

In addition to Veracruz, the National Civil Protection Coordination has warned of torrential rains in Tabasco and Chiapas, with intense precipitation expected in several other Mexican states. Local authorities are maintaining continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas and have established temporary shelters to accommodate displaced residents.
