Veracruz Blue Crab Rescue Saves 327 Specimens

Through the "Dale Paso al Cangrejo Azul" program, the Veracruz State Environmental Protection Prosecutor's Office (PMA) rescued and secured 327 blue crabs during a conservation drive. Of those, 170 ovigerous females were released directly into the sea to support reproduction, while 67 males and 90 non‑ovigerous females were relocated to nearby mangrove areas to enable safe crossing of a 14‑kilometre road linking the communities of Salinas and Arbolillo.

The operation, running from 1 July to 15 September, was coordinated by the Veracruz Government, the Secretariat of Environment, the PMA, the Aquarium of Veracruz, the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries, the Navy and the Alvarado municipal authorities. Informational material was also distributed to motorists to raise awareness of the species’ vulnerability during its breeding season.
