Veracruz Cathedral holds mass on 95th anniversary of martyr Angel Darío Acosta Zurita, urging canonization

On Monday, a delegation from the parish of San Mateo in Naolinco will travel to Veracruz Cathedral for a special noon Mass marking the 95th anniversary of the martyrdom of Angel Darío Acosta Zurita. The faithful will pray for his prompt canonization. The beato was shot dead in the cathedral on 25 July 1931 after performing baptisms, and his death has become a focal point of local devotion. Father Aurelio Mojica Limón, spokesperson for the Diocese of Veracruz, announced the celebration, noting the presence of a newly appointed priest in the community. The canonization cause is being overseen by priest‑historian Ismael Villegas, who confirmed that the process remains active.
