Mexico crime trends show regional variations in violence

Crime statistics across several Mexican states show varying trends in violent and property crimes. In the State of Mexico, Governor Delfina Gómez reported a 48 percent decrease in kidnappings between January and September 2026 compared to the previous year. High-impact crimes in the region also fell by 26 percent, alongside reductions in vehicle theft.

In contrast, Veracruz reported 63,980 alleged crimes during the first nine months of 2026. September specifically saw 43 investigations for intentional homicide, four for femicide, and one for kidnapping. Property crimes remain a significant issue in the state, with 1,323 robberies recorded in September alone.

Guanajuato experienced a sharp spike in violence during the third week of October, recording 41 intentional homicides. This represented a significant increase from the previous week, with daily averages rising from 3.2 to 5.8 murders. During certain days that week, the state led national violence rankings with up to nine homicides in a single day.
