Veracruz Diocese urges calm amid earthquake-related social media panic

The Diocese of Veracruz is urging the public to remain calm and avoid falling victim to alarmist messages on social media following recent global earthquakes. Father Aurelio Mojica Limón, spokesperson for the diocese, warned that viral posts claiming these seismic events are signs of the “end of times” or imminent apocalyptic catastrophes pose a real risk to the emotional health of the population.

Mojica Limón emphasized that natural phenomena have historically been used to spread fatalistic fear. He advised both believers and non-believers to exercise common sense and avoid panic. From a doctrinal perspective, he reminded the community that Christian teaching holds that no human, angel, or prophet knows the exact moment of the end of the world. He encouraged people to find balance through preparation, faith, and living in peace with themselves and others.
