Veracruz farmer killed by crocodile while rescuing his horse

A 69‑year‑old farmer died after being attacked by a crocodile while trying to free his mare trapped in a muddy reservoir in Veracruz, Mexico. The man entered the water to help the animal, was seized by the reptile, and was dragged underwater. His body was recovered hours later near the communities of El Tronconal and El Alto. Authorities later captured a 1.2‑metre female crocodile in the area known as El Chaparral.
