Veracruz gender violence alert faces institutional stagnation
The Gender Violence Alert for the disappearance of women and girls in Veracruz, Mexico, remains stalled due to institutional opacity. The Cihuatlactolli collective reported that although a group of experts concluded their investigation months ago, the findings have not been made public.
Data from the Observatory of Violence against Women at the Universidad Veracruzana indicates a significant rise in disappearances, with over 216 women reported missing between January and June. This rate exceeds historical averages. Activists noted that the alert was only initiated following a legal mandate rather than state initiative, and recent leadership changes at the Veracruz Institute for Women have further obscured progress. Organizations are currently considering legal injunctions to compel the state to release information.
