Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle pushes journalist census amid debate

Governor Rocío Nahle García of Veracruz said the proposal to create a census of journalists originated from the journalists’ own guild, not from the state government. She explained that the initiative was presented during a public meeting at the state palace and that any such registry should be organized autonomously by the press sector, with the State Commission for the Attention and Protection of Journalists (CEAPP) serving as the coordinating body.

The proposal has sparked controversy.
