Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle Rejects Political Motive Claims in Mayors' Immunity Removal Requests
Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle García said the requests to lift the parliamentary immunity of two municipal mayors from the Movimiento Ciudadano party – Raúl González Martínez of Ixhuatlán del Sureste and Bertín Bravo Montero of Úrsulo Galván – are not politically motivated but stem from formal investigations conducted by the State Attorney General’s Office. She emphasized that the process respects due process, that the law will be applied impartially, and that her administration has not pressured the mayors to join the ruling Morena party. Nahle also noted that the state has been engaged in a financial restructuring program with 199 municipalities, regardless of political affiliation, and affirmed that no official will receive privileged protection from justice in cases of serious crimes.
