Veracruz hosts first picadas eating contest

As part of the Festival de la Gorda y la Picada, a food eating contest was held this Saturday in the La Huaca neighborhood of Veracruz. The event, held at the Toña La Negra alley, featured adult participants competing to eat as many 'picadas'—a traditional local dish—as possible within a four-minute timeframe.

Organizer Eduardo Torres noted that this was the first time such a competition has been included in the festival, aiming to foster community interaction and celebrate local gastronomy. The winner, a young man named Guillermo from the Los Volcanes neighborhood, consumed eight and a half picadas in under four minutes. He received 500 pesos in cash along with additional prizes.
