Veracruz regional updates: cultural festivals and infrastructure projects

Various regional developments are underway across Veracruz, Mexico. The Secretaría de Cultura de Veracruz (SECVER) has launched cultural activations in Tuxpan and Poza Rica to prepare for the XXIX Festival de la Huasteca, scheduled for October 15–18 in Álamo. Under the theme ‘Woman who sows culture, community that flourishes,’ the festival aims to preserve indigenous traditions through music, dance, and gastronomy.

In Ciudad Valles, preparations are advancing for the Festival Xantolo 2026, set to begin on October 29. The event will feature giant mask competitions and traditional parades, focusing on preserving regional customs rather than hiring external artists.

In Xalapa, municipal authorities are investing in public infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of the El Cafetal Sports Unit to strengthen social cohesion. Additionally, Governor Rocío Nahle García announced that a Teletón Rehabilitation and Child Inclusion Center (CRIT) will open in Minatitlán within approximately one year, following successful fundraising efforts.

In response to recent heavy rains, Xalapa’s Department of the Environment has intervened with approximately 35 trees to mitigate risks of falling in areas with landslides or steep slopes.
