Veracruz launches municipal scholarship for 20,000 university students

The Veracruz City Council has announced the creation of the ‘Joven Héroe Veracruzano Iván Gómez Gómez’ municipal scholarship program. Aimed at approximately 20,000 students enrolled in public higher education institutions, the initiative is designed to provide financial assistance for transportation costs.

Mayor Rosa María Hernández Espejo stated that the support will range between 500 and 800 pesos. The program is specifically intended for students who reside within the municipality of Veracruz and are enrolled in formal schooling systems. The municipal administration is currently working to define the budget, payment frequency, and specific operational rules.

To establish the list of eligible beneficiaries, the city will coordinate with the Universidad Veracruzana and the Instituto Tecnológico de Veracruz to review student enrollments. This marks the first time the local municipal government has launched a scholarship program specifically dedicated to university-level students, complementing existing state and federal aid.
