Veracruz leaders address education and union autonomy
In Veracruz, Mexico, political and union leaders are addressing the status of the education sector through various gatherings. Governor Rocío Nahle García participated in the 30th anniversary of the SNTE Section 32, where she pledged continued support for public education. Nahle highlighted the essential role of teachers in the state's 212 municipalities and over 22,000 communities, particularly those in indigenous and mountainous regions. She noted that her administration aims to improve school infrastructure through the delivery of desks, equipment for telesecundarias, and simplified administrative processes, while also committing to salary increases in accordance with federal agreements.
Simultaneously, the National Guild of Education Workers (GNTE) commenced its V Extraordinary National Congress in Veracruz. The assembly, involving 45 national delegates and various general secretaries, aims to analyze challenges facing the teaching profession and elect a new national leadership. Avith Moctezuma Uscanga, the current national director, stated that the organization seeks to restore dignity to educators and strengthen union autonomy, distancing the group from political models that prioritize interests over worker defense. The GNTE currently represents approximately 4,000 members nationwide, with 800 located in Veracruz.
