Veracruz Mayor disputes Grupo MAS payments to IMA

Veracruz Mayor Rosa María Hernández Espejo stated that payments made by Grupo Metropolitano de Agua y Saneamiento (MAS) to the Instituto Metropolitano del Agua (IMA) are insufficient. Following an audit by the Órgano de Fiscalización Superior del Estado (Orfis), a discrepancy of approximately 20.75 million pesos was identified regarding lease payments that Grupo MAS failed to cover.

The Orfis audit produced 52 observations, including 45 technical issues related to infrastructure and works, three financial issues, and four legal concerns. The audit also noted maintenance deficiencies, non-operational equipment, and irregularities in water treatment plants. The municipal government intends to compare these findings with its own documentation and is considering the possibility of revoking Grupo MAS’s concession.
