Veracruz Mayor Rosa María Hernández Espejo launches city reforestation and aid programs

Veracruz municipal president Rosa María Hernández Espejo inaugurated a reforestation program that will plant 3,600 endemic trees—including oak, icaco, mulato, flamboyán and fruit species—along avenues, parks and main streets. The initiative, coordinated by the Public Spaces directorate, aims to expand green cover, reduce urban heat, improve water infiltration and act as natural barriers against wind and pollutants. Permanent “Sembrando Vida” planting days and an “Adopt a Tree” scheme will involve schools, associations and citizens.

In the same session, Hernández Espejo praised state governor Rocío Nahle García’s social‑justice agenda and oversaw the delivery of the Apoyo a la Palabra and Apoyo a la Familia programs. The aid package provided appliances, functional support and productive‑skill workshops to 5,763 municipality residents, seeking to channel public resources directly to the most vulnerable families and strengthen local welfare.
