Veracruz medical staff and families protest hospital supply shortages
Patients, medical staff, and families of children with cancer marched through the streets of Veracruz on Sunday, September 27, to protest critical shortages of medicines and medical supplies at the Hospital de Alta Especialidad de Veracruz (HAEV).
Protesters, including representatives from the IMSS-Bienestar sector, reported that despite recent arrivals of some materials, there remains a severe lack of antibiotics, surgical equipment, gloves, and healing materials. These shortages have reportedly forced the postponement of surgeries and left families unable to fulfill prescriptions.
Beyond medication, demonstrators highlighted infrastructure failures, such as a lack of climate control in certain departments and broken facilities. The group called for a dialogue with authorities and specifically requested a visit from Alejandro Svarch Pérez, the Director General of IMSS-Bienestar, to address the crisis in Veracruz and Xalapa.
