Veracruz police accused of illegal raids and camera removals

A family in the Miguel Alemán neighborhood of Boca del Río, Veracruz, says police agents entered their home under a search warrant, seized 10,000 pesos in cash and physically assaulted several members, including handcuffing a child and forcing him to stand in the sun. The complainants, led by Verónica Valerio Ruiz, plan to file charges for robbery, assault and procedural violations, asserting they were not informed of any formal accusation.

Around the same time, residents of the Calzada Morelos area in Córdoba, Veracruz, reported that municipal police removed about 15 privately installed security cameras from homes without a court order. One resident quoted the police as saying, “Sólo nos dijeron que las cámaras serían llevadas a la Fiscalía y que después nos llamarían para aclarar la situación.” The neighbors say the action infringed their property rights and have asked authorities to clarify the legal basis for the seizures.

Both incidents highlight allegations of police overreach and violations of civil liberties in Veracruz, prompting calls for investigations and accountability.
