Veracruz Prosecutor Lisbeth Jiménez Vows Feminicide Conviction and Calls for Police Abuse Complaint
Veracruz State Attorney General Lisbeth Aurelia Jiménez said the prosecution is confident a conviction will be secured in the feminicide trial of Monserrat Bendimes, a young woman killed in the port city. She emphasized that the judge will base the verdict on the evidence and testimonies presented during the ongoing trial, which she described as progressing positively despite the extensive amount of proof still to be reviewed.
Jiménez also addressed a separate case, urging a doctoral student from the Universidad Veracruzana who alleged police misconduct in San José to file a formal complaint. She explained that filing is necessary to integrate the information into the investigation, noting that the state’s anti‑corruption unit already has open cases involving police officers for alleged abuse, extortion and other illicit activities. The prosecutor reiterated that these investigations remain active and that proper legal channels must be used to pursue accountability.
