Veracruz ranks third in Mexico for security force confrontations

Veracruz has ranked third nationally for the highest number of confrontations involving security forces during 2025, according to the 2026 National Census of Federal and State Public Security by INEGI. The state recorded 73 confrontations, with 71 involving state security institutions and two involving the National Guard.

In response to security requirements, approximately 170 to 180 officers of the Xalapa Municipal Police will undergo control and confidence evaluations this year. These staggered assessments are mandatory every three years for the 443-member force to ensure continued employment. The evaluations include polygraph tests, socioeconomic studies, medical and blood exams, and psychological assessments to manage high stress levels. Officers who fail to pass these requirements face disciplinary proceedings before the Commission of Honor and Justice, which may result in dismissal.
