Veracruz reports surge in cocaine consumption

Cocaine consumption has seen a significant resurgence in Veracruz, Mexico, according to specialists at the State Center Against Addictions "Cúspide." While methamphetamine (crystal meth) remains the most frequently consumed drug in the region, health officials report a notable increase in patients seeking treatment specifically for cocaine use.

Karina Alor, clinical director of Cúspide, noted that users often combine crystal meth with alcohol or marijuana, but the return of cocaine has raised new alarms. Experts expressed concern over the drug's ability to create rapid dependency, which can lead individuals to become addicted before they recognize the health risks.

The demographic most affected includes young adults between the ages of 18 and 40, many of whom are students or individuals in the early, productive stages of their professional careers.
