Veracruz residents block highways over infrastructure and service demands
Residents in Veracruz, Mexico, blocked two major roads on September 7, 2026, to demand improvements to local infrastructure and services. In Ixhuacán de los Reyes, protesters closed the Pocitos-Ixhuacán highway, citing severe potholes and road damage that increase accident risks and vehicle damage. Demonstrators called on the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works to implement a repaving program and criticized local officials for failing to address the issue.
In Tantoyuca, parents and community members blocked the Alazán-Canoas federal highway. Their demands included the assignment of maintenance staff to the San Sebastián Telesecundaria school and the restoration of electricity services by the Federal Electricity Commission.
