Veracruz residents demand removal of structure used for drug use
Residents in the historic center of Veracruz are calling on the City Council to remove a metal structure in the Plazuela de la Campana. Originally installed to protect an electrical transformer, the aluminum enclosure has become a site for drug use and a gathering point for people experiencing homelessness.
Local block leader Inés Espinoza reported that the design of the fence blocks visibility, making it difficult to monitor activities inside. Neighbors noted that the area frequently smells of marijuana and has become a location where individuals sleep and use public spaces for physiological needs, impacting the perceived security of the emblematic area.
