Veracruz shoe store fire linked to suspected electrical faults

A fire broke out at the D’Yobal shoe store located on Independencia Avenue in downtown Veracruz on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. While the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) initially suggested the fire might have been caused by an illegal meter bypass, local technicians and legal representatives for the business point to electrical infrastructure failures.

An electrician reported finding a fault in the neutral cable, which can cause voltage surges and overheating. He noted that the issue may stem from the CFE registration point rather than the store's internal wiring, citing similar issues with improper connections in the area.

José Felipe Ascencio, the legal representative for the business, stated that high voltage issues and faulty distribution devices have been reported in several establishments along Independencia Avenue. He attributed these recurring problems to aging CFE infrastructure. No injuries were reported in the incident, though the total material losses have yet to be determined.
