Veracruz students begin receiving June 2026 scholarship payments as Mexico warns of upcoming funding pause

From June 15 to 26, the state of Veracruz started disbursing the 2026 cycle of the federal Becas para el Bienestar program. Payments are scheduled by the initial letter of beneficiaries' surnames and range from 1,900 pesos for the Beca Universal Benito Juárez (secondary education) and the Beca Rita Cetina (primary education) to 5,800 pesos for the Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro program (higher education). The rollout represents roughly 1.7 billion pesos and is expected to benefit over 900,000 students in the state, with the Bank of Welfare handling the transfers.

Education authorities clarified that the Beca Rita Cetina will cease deposits after the June disbursement because the school year ends for the 2025‑2026 cycle. No payments are scheduled for July and August, the summer vacation period; the next payment is planned for October 2026 when the new academic year begins. The SEP also warned that beneficiaries may lose the scholarship permanently for reasons such as providing false documentation, holding incompatible federal aid, voluntary resignation, or school abandonment.
