Veracruz students develop AI machine for lemon export sorting
Students from the Instituto Tecnológico de Veracruz have developed Neuralemo, a machine that uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to automatically classify Persian limes for export. The system utilizes a 4K resolution camera and an image processing system to analyze the fruit from multiple angles as it rotates on a conveyor belt.
By processing images on a dedicated graphics card server, the machine determines the category of each lime based on Mexican export quality standards. Project developer Aldahir Osorio Contreras stated that the technology aims to automate repetitive tasks currently performed manually in packing houses to reduce errors and fatigue, rather than replacing human workers.
