Veracruz Governor defends teacher suspended over school assignment controversy
Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle has intervened in a controversy involving a substitute teacher, José “N”, at the Luis Donaldo Colosio elementary school in Martínez de la Torre. The teacher was suspended following a dispute with parents over a classroom assignment that required sixth-grade students to draw a map (croquis) of their route from home to school.
While some parents, including Karina “N”, expressed concerns regarding privacy and safety, the situation escalated when three female students reportedly alleged inappropriate behavior, including uncomfortable gestures and physical proximity. These allegations led to formal complaints filed with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE).
Governor Nahle described the teacher's suspension as “unjust,” arguing that a disagreement over a school activity should not result in removal from duty. She has requested that the Secretary of Education, Raquel Bonilla Herrera, review the case to facilitate the teacher's return to his functions. The teacher has denied all allegations of misconduct, maintaining that the assignment was part of the official curriculum and that his interactions with students were strictly academic.
