Veracruz to begin new vehicle plate replacement in 2027

The Veracruz government has announced a multi-year vehicle registration replacement program aimed at updating the state's vehicle registry and enhancing public security. Miguel Santiago Reyes Hernández, head of the Secretariat of Finance and Planning (SEFIPLAN), stated that the next phase of the program is scheduled to begin in 2027, targeting vehicles with license plates issued between 2019 and 2022.

The initiative, driven by Governor Rocío Nahle García, follows an ongoing process for vehicles with plates from 2018 and earlier, which has reportedly reached an 80 percent completion rate. Following the 2027 phase, the government plans to address vehicles with plates from 2022 to 2024 in 2028.

Officials emphasized that the primary objective is not to increase state revenue, but to strengthen vehicle identification and tracking mechanisms. By updating owner information, such as names and addresses, and verifying vehicle makes, authorities aim to improve security and eliminate the use of falsified serial numbers.
