Veracruz to open major road distributor and begin bridge construction

The Veracruz road distributor, a two‑kilometre elevated highway on Federal Road MEX‑140, has entered its final construction phase. With an investment of 820 million pesos, it is slated to open in August and is expected to cut travel times by up to 25 minutes for more than 780 000 residents of Veracruz, Boca del Río, Medellín de Bravo, Jamapa and surrounding municipalities. The project created about 2 460 direct and indirect jobs during construction.

On 17 July 2026, Governor Rocío Nahle García inaugurated the Puente del Sotavento over the Jamapa River. The bridge, financed with over 1 200 million pesos of state funds and planned to be toll‑free, will be 520 metres long (720 metres including approaches), feature four traffic lanes, pedestrian walkways, lighting and safety elements, and will improve connectivity between Boca del Río, Alvarado and the federal highway 150. Both projects are part of a broader effort to expand transport infrastructure in the rapidly growing Veracruz metropolitan area.
