Veracruz urges stricter municipal finance after securitization ends
After the termination of a long‑running securitization scheme that had tied up municipal resources, Jorge Silva, secretary‑general of the Veracruz College of Economists, called for stronger financial discipline among local governments. He said the new phase requires greater transparency, accountability and efficiency in public spending, and urged municipalities to increase their own revenue, modernise administration and adopt evidence‑based planning.
Silva also emphasized that sustainable municipal finances should not rely on extraordinary financing mechanisms. He invited officials, business leaders, academics and the media to a technical debate on public‑finance policies aimed at boosting productivity, competitiveness and social welfare in the state.
