Verbicaro approves study to preserve indigenous grape varieties

The municipal council of Verbicaro has unanimously approved an agreement with Arsac (the regional agency for Calabrian agricultural development) and the Basile Caramia research center. The partnership aims to study, protect, and enhance the genetic heritage of indigenous grape varieties associated with the Verbicaro DOC.

The initiative focuses on characterizing historical varieties, preserving viticultural biodiversity, and conducting scientific research to support local enological production. By leveraging scientific expertise, the administration seeks to safeguard the region's millenary winemaking tradition and prevent the loss of agricultural identity.
