Verbund increases electricity prices for Austria-Tarif

Verbund, the majority state-owned energy provider, is increasing the price of its ‘Austria-Tarif’ (V-Strom Österreich) for new customers. Effective September 24, the net price for the first year of a contract rises from 9.5 cents to 10 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), representing an increase of approximately 5.3 percent.

Following the initial year, the discounted rate expires, and the price rises to a regular rate of 15 cents net per kWh. While new customers face these higher costs, existing contract holders will remain on their current rates. Verbund cited difficult market conditions and rising costs in international energy markets as the reasons for the adjustment.

The tariff was originally introduced in February as a measure to combat rising electricity prices. However, the Momentum Institute had previously characterized the plan as a short-term discount campaign. Other providers, such as EVN and Energie Steiermark, have responded to changing market conditions by lowering prices.
