Verd industrial fire destroys wood processing facility

A large fire broke out at a wood processing facility, identified by local community reports as Lespak, in the industrial zone of Verd, located in the Vrhnika municipality. The blaze ignited around 9:00 PM on Tuesday, engulfing a tent-like industrial hall used for wood pellet production.

Approximately 80 firefighters from various stations, including Verd, Vrhnika, Stara Vrhnika, Ligojna, and Sinja Gorica, responded to the scene. They managed to extinguish the fire by approximately 1:00 AM. Two individuals present in the hall at the time of the outbreak were fortunately uninjured.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by a fault in the electrical wiring, though a formal criminal-forensic investigation is ongoing to confirm the exact cause. The incident resulted in several thousand euros in damages. During the height of the fire, local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.
