Verdello woman arrested for attempted massacre and gas leak

A 46-year-old woman has been arrested in Verdello, near Bergamo, following a violent incident that authorities are describing as an attempted massacre. The incident occurred on September 18 in an apartment building on via Adua.

Carabinieri officers responded to reports of broken glass and a strong smell of gas from neighbors. Upon entering the apartment, they found the woman in a highly agitated state. The residence was in a dangerous condition, featuring flooded floors, exposed electrical wires, and three open gas canisters.

During the intervention, the woman allegedly attacked a patrol leader with a 24-centimeter kitchen knife. The officer's bulletproof vest prevented serious injury. Following the confrontation, the woman was sedated by medical personnel and taken to the hospital. Firefighters from Treviglio were called to secure the building, which houses 12 other families, due to the extreme risk posed by the gas leak and electrical hazards.
