Verdi union criticizes German federal budget distribution

Frank Werneke, head of the Verdi union, has criticized the German federal government's financial planning during parliamentary budget week. Werneke warned against budget cuts that disproportionately affect weaker segments of the population, arguing that the current distribution of the burden is unfair. He specifically noted that while the wealthy are being protected, social benefits face potential reductions.

The union is calling for tax policies that address the growing gap between rich and poor. Additionally, Verdi has voiced opposition to the planned expansion of fixed-term employment contracts without substantive reasons, labeling it a restriction of workers' rights.

To strengthen long-term social security, Verdi proposed several measures, including the introduction of mandatory company pension schemes and increased support for social housing. The union also advocated for a reform of the debt brake to facilitate infrastructure investment, and requested a reduction in social security contributions to provide relief for employees.
