Verdi’s Don Carlo to debut at Sassari’s Teatro Comunale

The Teatro Comunale in Sassari is preparing for the debut of Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece, “Don Carlo,” scheduled for October 30 and November 1 as part of the Ente de Carolis 2026 season. This production marks the first time the opera will be performed in the city and its first appearance in Sardinia in 25 years.

An introductory event titled “Alla scoperta dell’opera” was held in the theater foyer to prepare the public for the production. Led by artistic director Alberto Gazale, the session featured insights from president Antonello Mattone, conductor Federico Santi, and director Ognian Draganov. The opera explores themes of power, religion, and impossible love set in the Spain of Philip II, inspired by the tragedy by Friedrich Schiller.
